Major Projects
undertaken by MULTI
MULTI has altogether completed 40 projects in the Transportation Sector
during the last fifteen years of its establishment. A list of projects
executed by MULTI is given in Table: List of Projects in Transportation
Sector. A short description of some of the major projects undertaken
by MULTI follows:
Upper Sagarmatha Agricultural Development
Project, MOA/ADB, 1999-2001:
Detail field survey and design of 77km rural and environmentally friendly
road connecting Jayaramghat to Diktel and Lamidanda. The services
includes fixing of alignments, study of hydrology, meteorology, design
of road and environment protection works. The consulting services
also included preparation of quantity and cost estimates with construction
supervision and contract administration.
Rural Infrastructure
Development Project, MLD/ADB, 1997-2002:
Detail field survey and design of 251km rural and environmentally
friendly road at three districts The services includes fixing alignment,
study of hydrology, meteorology, design of road and environment protection
works. The consulting services also included preparation of quantity
and cost estimates with construction supervision and contract administration.
Resealing Training Contract,
Package:7, Jamuniya - Kohalpur Road (DFID/DOR) 1997-1998:
MULTI in joint venture with NEPECON involved in design and construction
supervision of 22 Km long road under Road Maintenance Project. The
Project Road is part of H -12, of Ratna Rajmarg which links Indian
border with East West Highway viz Nepalgunj. The consultancy services
for design phase included chainage survey, visual survey, road inventory
survey, pavement strength survey, engineering survey, traffic and
axle load survey, construction materials resource investigation, laboratory
tests, detail design of resealing of road, quantity and cost estimation
along with preparation of bidding documents, tendering and bid evaluation.
MULTI involved as Engineer as per FIDIC in construction phase and
provided services which included contract administration, construction
supervision and quality control of works and post construction supervision
during Defects Liability Period.
Arniko Highway Project, Phase I and II (SDC/DOR) 1994-1998:
MULTI is involved with local associates in design and construction
supervision for reconstruction of 110 km long highway linking Kathmandu
with Tibetan border, by providing base course of emulsion aggregates
/ crushed stone base with mix surface dressing. The work also include
drainage improvement and river training works. The objective of the
project is to rehabilitate/reconstruct the road and road corridor
works and impart training to the local consultants and contractors.
The work also includes drainage, slope stabilization and river training
works.
Pilot Labour Based Road Rehabilitation Project (WB) 1992-1993:
MULTI was hired by the World Bank for project preparation study, leading
to identification of about 100 Km of feeder and district roads for
rehabilitation and routine maintenance in four districts and recommend
institutional arrangement including training to local contractors
on labour based construction. Feasibility study and detailed survey,
design and tender document preparation for 41 Km of identified road.
Road Flood Rehabilitation
Project (IDA/DOR) 1991-1995:
MULTI was involved in the design and construction supervision of river
training and protection works in East-west Highway spread over 430
Km. The job included contract administration as FIDIC Engineer for
contractor China Henan selected through international bidding procedure.
The work was commenced in 1991 and project completion report has been
submitted recently in July, 1995.
Karnali - Bheri Highway Projects (DOR/HMG)
1986-1988 :
214 km long; MULTI conducted detail survey and design of 167 km long
portion. The consultancy services involved 135 man-months and included
detail field survey, study of geology, geomorphology, soils, hydrology
and meteorology, construction materials availability, design of road
protection structures and pavements, environmental impact assessment
and remedial measures; assess land and property acquisition, quantity
and cost estimates, project preparation document.
Dhading Besi-Bharyang
Bhurung Road Project, (DOR/HMG) 1988:
24 Km long; connecting district headquarters of Nuwakot (Bidur) with
Dhading (Dhading-Besi) districts for access to Prithvi highway at
Malekhu. The services consisted of detail field survey along the alignment,
geological, hydrological, environmental impact studies and design
of road geometries, pavement, protection and drainage structures,
land and property acquisition showing limits of right of way. The
contract involved 35 professional man months.
Salyan Chourjhari Musikot
Road Project, (DOR/HMG) 1985-1986:
MULTI undertook detail feasibility and design of 35 km section of
the feeder road (103 Km) connecting Salyan and Rukum districts. It
has bene designated as bituminous surface with 8 bridges, 174 culverts,
33 km side drains and 3.2 km of retaining wall.
Design of Bridges along
Hulaki Road, (DOR/HMG) 1995:
MULTI was entrusted to detail design eight bridges along the Indo-Nepal
boarder called Hulaki Road and one in Sunsari district in four contract
packages, all to be completed in a short span of three months. The
consultancy services included detailed topographical, hydrological,
geological and materials availability survey, soil investigation,
seismological study, detail design of foundation, substructure and
superstructure, quantity and cost estimation along with preparation
of bidding documents.
